Car Buff

Category Cars and Trucks

I am a car nut. Really, I am. I have owned more cars than most of my friends combined. I have owned the following vehicles (in no particular order):

  • 1972 Chevy Nova -This was not an SS, but still really nice. This was the classic "high school hot rod", with a blueprinted 307 (yes, a 307), TH400, air shocks (jacked waaaaay up), Crager S/S rims, and Cooper tires.
  • (2) 1978 Buick Skyhawks (both hatchback manual V6 cars)
  • (3) 1st Generation Pontiac Grand Ams -2 1973s & a 1974. The 1st Generation Grand Ams are my very favorite car in the world. I just sold my most recently owned one this summer.
  • 1969 Dodge Charger RT (orange with a Confederate Battle flag on the roof -think General Lee without the numbers on the doors)
  • 1971 Mercury Cougar XR7 (scary fast car)
  • 1971 GTO Judge Convertible (one of 17 made, I had no idea how rare it was at the time when I traded it in for one of the afformentioned Buick Skyhawks. This decision haunts me to this very day, and is proof that some herbal products do in fact make you stupid.)
  • (2) 1976 Chevy Nova Hatchbacks -Had them both at the same time. Both ran, neither was licensed, both were pretty shot. The plan was to combine them into 1 good car. Plan failed, sold both shortly after buying them.
  • 1978 Chevy Camaro (owned this for less than 1 day before engine threw a rod)
  • 1976 Chevy Vega station wagon
  • 1964 Buick Special (4 door w/HO V8 & Keyston Classic rims -very cool)
  • 1978 Mercury LTD
  • 1982 Nissan 200 SX Coupe -This is one of the best cars I ever had. It had 86,000 miles when I purchased it, and was still running strong when I sold it several years later at over 210,000 miles.
  • 1986 Chevy Camaro -V6, AT. -Looked good, ran like crap.
  • 1986 Buick Skyhawk Turbo -Another good looking piece of crap. My wife had to push it off the freeway (fuel pump died), and the clutch cable snapped on me. I ended up selling this hunk of garbage for $200 (having paid nearly $3000 for it).
  • 1967 Cadillac Coupe De Ville (502 engine, white w/black vinyl top, oxblood interior, and a Wonderbar radio -very cool)
  • 1982 Oldsmobile Toronado -My dad sold this to me for $1. I wish he hadn't. Because I felt guilty about getting rid of this, I kept it for way too long, and dumped way too much money (Replaced Transaxle, Tires, Carb, Computer, A/C compressor & condensor, Waterpump, Radiator, etc... almost $5000 in repairs) into trying to keep it road worthy.
  • My wife owned a 1986 Renault Encore when we were dating. I'm listing it here not because I want to lay claim to it (I don't, it sucked), but because we traded it for an EXTREMELY nice 1974 Chevrolet Impala 4 door hard top (no post) after we were married.
  • 1989 Ford F150 Club Cab 4x4
  • 1995 Saturn SL1 -This was the first car I bought new. This was a really good car, except for the fact that it was stolen (and recovered) twice.
  • 1972 Pontiac Lemans Sport 350 Convertible -what can I say, I love convertibles. Another car I should not have sold.
  • 2000 Dodge Intrepid Sedan -this was stolen and stripped. Police recovered the body, but the doors, interior, deck lid, hood, etc. were all gone. We bought my wife's current ride, a 1995 Buick LeSabre Sedan, with the insurance settlement. I really liked the Intrepid, and may end up purchasing another in the future.
  • 1997 Dodge Ram 2500HD 4x4 Club Cab V10 Pickup -This is the second (and last) vehicle I bought new. I LOVED this truck, the power was unbelievable. I could tow or haul anything I wanted, and even managed to "show up" a number of Jeep owners off-road. The truck only got between 8 and 10 mpg, and I eventually had to sell it because of gas costs.
  • 1988 Dodge Ramcharger This was a pretty cool, and very tough truck.
  • 2000 Dodge Dakota 4x4 Club Cab (my current ride)

Motorcycles:
  • Honda ST90 (1st motorcycle)
  • BSA Super Rocket
  • Honda Trials 125
  • (2) Honda CB750s (one a "K", the other an "F")
  • Suzuki 650

Let's see, that's 30 cars and 6 motorcycles. Man, that's a lot of iron. Trying to remember all of them, is really difficult. I'm pretty sure I have forgotten a few. I find it interesting that there is only 1 foreign car on the list. It's not that I really have anything against foriegn cars, I just happen to like American Muscle (yes, I know that some of the vehicles here fall far short of muscle).

Another update: I traded the 2006 Dodge 2500HD Bighorn Cummins TurboDiesel 4X4 Longbed Quad Cab in on a 2005 Dodge Grand Caravan last September.
I would have updated sooner; but I've been busy dealing with the sudden increase in my estrogren levels.

Time for an update. I traded in the 2000 Dodge Dakota 4x4 Club Cab a couple of weeks back for a new 2006 Saturn Vue (for my wife). She loves it. I am now driving her 1995 Buick Lesabre Sedan. While it isn't the "hot rod" or "big bad truck" I would prefer; it is paid off and reliable. Even though it has nearly 120,000 miles, it still drives like a dream. I think I'm going to keep it for quite a while.

Of course, given my history with cars, "quite a while" could mean "three months".

Gravatar Image4 - Yet another update. I traded in the Saturn VUE when I bought my new truck. A 2006 Dodge Ram 2500HD LB QC 4X4 (with the HO Cummins Turbo Diesel, of course).
