Dance Shoes for Charity?
I just saw this on the local morning news.
It seems a group of dancers in Minnesota decided they wanted to help others and raise funds for charity. They decided that they wanted to help out starving kids in South Africa (the country, not the region) and Brazil, as well as hurricane Katrina victims.
And, being dancers, they figured a great way to do this would be to put on a dance show. Apparently somebody in the group figured that it being winter and them being in Minnesota, what better place to put on a "dance-a-thon" than on top of a frozen lake? And that's exactly what they did.
Now, don't get me wrong here. I think it's great that they are trying to help out their fellow man. Most folks can't even be bothered to drop a few coins in a Salvation Army bucket. Yes, I think it's a little odd to show off your hoofer skills on a slab of plywood resting in the snow, sitting on top of the ice over a frozen lake, in Minnesota, in winter; but hey, that's just me. These dancers are doing way more than most people do, and for that they need to be thanked.
I just have one question. Why are they sending dance shoes to starving kids, instead of food? These kids need food and medicine, not used Capezio's. Hell, most of them don't even have floors.
Perhaps I'm just being grouchy, but I just don't get it.
