The times they are a changing
Category PersonalThe last few weeks at Casa Spanky have been absolutely insane. As with my buddy Julian, some major events are taking place here as well.
Perhaps it is something in the air. Perhaps it is simply spring. Nevertheless, the smell of change is in the wind. Cleaning my office (getting rid of old/unused stuff) has been a heck of a first step.
I don't have time to elaborate any more right now. However, they (whoever "they" are) say a picture is worth a thousand words. Here then, is roughly forty three hundred words:
Roughly 4300 words
Halfway through cleaning out my office. In addition to some artwork, you may notice a framed certificate on my wall. While the number of my hardware / software / admin / development certifications are innumerable (seriously, I have so many I've lost count of them all), this is the only certification I bother to frame. It is my Anheuser-Busch Certified Beer Master certification. Gotta keep your priorities straight.
How many CDs does it take to fill a shred bin? I have no idea, but I almost blew out a testicle trying to lift this when I was finally finished.
I completely filled the recycle bin with old manuals.
Software & Manuals that went unsold at my garage sale. Look close, you probably have several of these same items in your library as well. What you don't see is the stuff that I sold off. Things like (still sealed) a copy of SQL Server 6.5 with 5 user licenses ($10), two sets of SQL Server Admin Training kits ($2 each), two sets of COMPLETE MCSE certification training ($4 each), dozens of games (25 cents each -except for an original sealed copy of DOOM 2, that went for $1), several old (but still functional) computers and computer equipment including my 300 baud audiocoupler for 25 cents and a 2G SCSI-2 tape drive, controller card, 20 new tapes ($2), and hundreds of manuals / books (anywhere from 5 to 25 cents each). All in all, I figure I sold of somewhere between 6 and 8 thousand dollars (retail) worth of hardware, software & manuals. My total profit from the sale? Just under $100 bucks. The point wasn't really to make any money. Basically, I just wanted somebody to haul all the stuff away that I couldn't bear to throw out.
I'll post a better explanation as soon as I have time.
