AD507 Leveraging the Power of Object Oriented Programming in LotusScript
Category LS 2007Speakers: Jens-B. Augustiny (LIGONET GmbH) and Bill Buchan (HADSL)
From the sessions db:
Object Oriented Programming (OOP) may drastically reduce your coding time in projects that reach a higher degree of complexity, as it brings re-usable and consistent logic in the form of your own objects to your fingertips. This session will show how to create and use your own classes and how they can relate to the LotusScript Object Model. If you are familiar with LotusScript but don't know how to create your own classes, this session is for you!
This was a great session. Bill and Jens did a wonderful job presenting some very complicated, very geeky stuff. The session was not without some difficulties though.
Jens is an extremely good developer; but his lack of mastery of English clearly hurt his presentation skills during this session. Which is a really sad thing, because the man is brilliant. Bill did well "pulling" Jens into the conversations; however it was clear that this was difficult for both of them.
As far as content goes, this session ROCKED. The gave a good base introduction into objects, what they are, and how they work. They managed to give very good examples of how to start with object-oriented programming, without delving into the old here is a "car" class, this BMW is an instance of the car class, which extends the "automobile" class example.
They also managed to give some good business reasons for getting into OOP; which is something usually missed by most intro to OOP-esque presentations I've seen in the past.
