Congratulations, Mr. Obama

QuickImage Category Politics
This is our time, to put our people back to work and open doors of opportunity for our kids; to restore prosperity and promote the cause of peace; to reclaim the American dream and reaffirm that fundamental truth, that, out of many, we are one; that while we breathe, we hope. And where we are met with cynicism and doubts and those who tell us that we can't, we will respond with that timeless creed that sums up the spirit of a people: Yes, we can.
- Barack Obama

Congratulations Mr. Obama, on your victory in our nation's election yesterday.

I did not vote for you. I strongly disagree with you positions on....well, pretty much everything. However, today is not the day for political snarking and sniping. Today is a day for you to bask in the glow of a hard-won campaign.

And so today sir, I congratulate you. Soon you will take the oath of office and be sworn in as the 44th President of the United States of America.

I did not vote for you.

But I will support you. The office you will soon hold is too important for me to do anything else. We may disagree on, as I stated before, pretty much everything; but once you take that oath, you will be the President of my country. I pray that God grants you the wisdom to make the right decisions, and the strength to stand by those decisions, and the dignity to withstand the inevitable attacks from your critics.

Congratulations Mr. Obama

Gravatar Image2 - From an outside perspective "my president right or wrong" is not something we have heard much over the last 8-10 years. It is good to have that back.

Gravatar Image3 - This is an American approach, and I respect you for it. I wish I could claim I'd kept to that attitude for the last 8 years, but I admit there are many times when I simply could not.

Gravatar Image4 - I'm right there with you brother.

Gravatar Image5 - Thank you, Devin. Very well said.

Gravatar Image6 - I didn't vote for him either and I'd say my opinion follows yours. I came to the realization he was going to win a week before and prepared myself for the 'loss'. I totally agree with you that we need to all support him. It seems there's some momentum to take advantage of so let's get going! I'll hope for his promises of fixing this economy and a real energy policy. I hope he puts my 3 kids through college too! Emoticon
Great comment, Devin!

Gravatar Image7 - I agree. The Right must be a LOYAL opposition....Though we will no doubt oppose on much.

That said, my instincts will often lead me down this path:

"Republicans should act as bipartisan towards the Democrat majority as the Democrats have towards the Republicans in the past eight years." - Ann Coulter

Opposition is good; as long as we don't lose our minds about it.

Plus, the Democrats don't need the Republicans. They can do pretty much whatever they want. The question is do they want to do some of their more radical proposals without Republican cover?

I say let them roll over the Republicans if they must, but give them no shelter if they want to do stuff we completely disagree on...Bipartisanship doesn't mean 'Republicans giving in to Democrats' (though this is how Democrats define it), and both sides should stick to their guns; this is what they are elected to do. Not to play nice with each other.

Remember, "Politics is the continuation of War by other means." - Clausewitz/Pero Corollary

Neither is pretty, though both are used to determine who leads....Politics is just much more civilized and less bloody.

Heaven knows the Democrats never cave in.....It's something I agree with them on, and wish the Republicans had half their spine.

Gravatar Image8 - How did you vote then ? Did you vote for "the other guy", and his brainless running mate. Geesus! You coulda put that Bin Laden dude up against McCain and he woulda won too.

Bush and his stupid buddies destroyed america in 8 years. Made it a laughing stock of the planet.

So, you wanted another 4 years of gross management incompetence, wars, and fiscal and monetary recklessness.. Woot!!! Yeah.. like america needed another 4 years of that ? And we need more guns to!!!

Gravatar Image9 - Hey dumba$$! Why did you edit out someone elses political comments ?

If you put it out there, then it's open for criticism. You are like all the other republican's, just shove your head up your own a$$es when you can't face reality. Democrats 4 eva!!!!!

@8 - If you really don't know how I voted, then you have not been paying attention. Why is it that my congratulations to Mr. Obama is turned into a bucket of vitriol by the likes of you? And why don't you have the courage to sign your post?

@9 - I originally pulled #8's comment because it was unsigned (as was yours). I was considering pulling yours as well, when I realized I had not made my rules for posting completely clear:

1 - Sign your posts. If you lack the balls to sign your post(s), why should I publish them?
2 - Do not attack my friends. Feel free to attack their positions or logic. By all means, go ahead and debate each other. If somebody posts something you know to be ill-conceived, wrong, or just plain stupid please call them on it. Shine the light of logic and truth on foolishness. But to not insult one another. Do not be an ass or be rude just to bring attention to yourself. Doing so will get you kicked.
3 - Be courteous, and try to limit the swearing. My mother reads this blog. If your post warrants an occasional curse-word, then by all means use it. But please don't use filthy language just because you can. Don't hide behind the anonymity of the web. Please think of my site as the back porch of a close friend's house. Y'all can hang out and talk, you can even get into some serious arguments. Please don't throw furniture or trash the place.

Lately I have been getting a TON of porno-spam comments. I have activated moderation controls (no comments get posted without me approving them) in order to combat this. This does NOT mean I'm going to edit a post for content. I will edit / cancel (as I feel necessary) posts that violate any of my rules. Mostly I just check to make sure it's not a porno-spam ad and clear it.

That's pretty much it for my rules. Just so we are clear: this is my blog, I am in control. Before you go off on a crying rant about how terrible I am for editing / blocking comments, re-read ANY of my political threads. You will see I have no fear of dissenting opinions, or even of being proven wrong. However, I do request that my opponents be armed with both intellect and courage. Sadly, you appear to lack both.

-Devin.
