Giving Credit where Credit is Due
Category Politics
I have to admit up front I've never been a fan of Bill Clinton.
-no wait, let me rephrase that. I've never been a fan of Bill Clinton's policies and politics. Regarding Bill Clinton, the man, I've never met him so I can't say. Although I would be willing to bet that he's a pretty likeable fellow.
Anyway, I have many times attacked his policies and politics. I have regularly pointed out what I consider the failures of his presidency. This is not one of those times.
Kim Jong Il has pardoned and released two U.S. journalists. Our Government has been working like crazy trying to make this happen, and we've been unsuccessful. Then Bill showed up. We will probably never know what went on or what was said / done during his surprise visit to North Korea; but the fact is he got the shit done.
Thank you, Mr. President.

My hunch is that Bill said noting, or that nothing he said there had anything to do with the release. Kim Jong Il got what he wanted, a photo opp with a very popular person on the international stage and by so doing gives him, in his eyes street cred in the international community, that is all he wanted. They, North Korea, whine for attention all the time and this time got it.
What I like most about this news item, after the release of the two journalist, is how it makes poor Al look, poor guy, practically begging to go over and act like Superman to get his journalist out of trouble, the problem is, and this is only a guess, is it would make him look a little too powerful, and we know that Hill and the current president have their eye on 2012 and don't want that.
