FUN102 Speedgeeking at Lotusphere
Category LS 2007Speaker: Assorted Notes Gurus (including me).
From the sessions db:
Here’s a brand-new completely condensed, immersive and rowdy approach to hearing from some of the best and brightest that Lotusphere’s YellowSpace 2007 has to offer, and learn about the tips, techniques (and sometimes crazy) ideas that they have been working on. Migrate as a group around the room from one 5-minute demo to the next, while stopwatches, buzzers and loud-mouthed emcee’s keep things fast-faced and on track! The result is ‘managed mayhem’ and a good amount of fun.
Ok, for those of you who don't know the story, allow me to repeat it here.
I submitted several session abstracts for Lotusphere this year. Unfortunately none of them were selected (which in hindsight was a good thing; I was so busy for the last quarter that I would not have been able to properly prepare a session anyway). I have also been having some difficulty with my mail provider, however I was unaware of the extent of my email problems until Saturday night. (The full details and back-story for this are here).
Anyway, they selected me to present at the Speedgeeking session, however I was unaware of this until Saturday evening. Rocky knew I was going to be here; and I am very honored that he trusted in me and my abilities enough to keep me listed as a presenter even though he had not heard back from me. (Thank you my friend, you are awesome).
The point of this is that I didn't know I was presenting until Saturday night, and I didn't realize my topic had been pre-selected until Monday afternoon. So I got to stress out a little bit and get my presentation nailed down.
My topic was Custom Website Statistics using IBM Lotus Domino. I showed how to set up a Web Hit Log that grabs and logs all NotesItem and CGI information for every GET or POST made to your Domino Server. The session went by in an absolute blur, and I really enjoyed myself. More to the point, I think the folks who came to my table enjoyed themselves as well; and quite possibly went away having learned a thing or two. All in all I was very happy with it (you can download the demo database here).
My only complaint was that there were 12 of us presenting, and we were not able to see one another's presentations. I hope that next year (if I'm asked to present again) that we will have the opportunity to see each another's presentations before we start.
I spoke to several folks after the session, and the general consensus that I got was that this was the killer session to attend. I don't know if I'd go as far as that, but it certainly does feel good to hear.
