Happy 15th Birthday!

Lotus Notes 1.0 shipped fifteen years ago today.  Fifteen years old, and still the best there is at what it does, which even after fifteen years can't be summed up in one sentence.

Thanks and congratulations to Ray Ozzie, Tim Halvorsen, and Len Kawell for creating a revolutionary software platform has managed to grow and mature into the very best, most secure, and most stable.....uhm,.....darn it, I still can't describe it proberly.  Thanks to IBM for grabbing on to Lotus at a time when it seemed "on the ropes", and helping this great product continue to grow.

Let's see,  what exactly is it great at?

  • Workflow?.....check.
  • Mail Routing?.....check.
  • Security?.....check.
  • Stability?.....check.
  • Robustness?.....check.
  • Security?.....check.
  • Scales well?.....check.
  • Web Server?.....check.
  • XML?.....check.
  • Java?.....check.
  • Presense Awareness?.....check.
  • Expandability?.....check.
  • Security?.....check.
  • Replication?.....check.
  • Fault-Tolerance?.....check.
  • Customization?.....check.
  • Security?.....check.
  • Multiple Clients?.....check.
  • Mobile Clients?.....check.
  • Offline Capability?.....check.
  • Securty (I keep pointing this out for a reason, the damn thing is rock-solid).....check.
  • Did I miss anything?

Thanks also for helping me to earn a living (since 1995) using this very cool product.
