In Flanders Field
![]()
In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.
We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders fields.Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.
Today is Memorial Day. For those of you who don't recognize it; the photo at for this entry is of the Tomb of the Unknowns in Arlington National Cemetery.
Here Rests,
In Honored Glory,
An American Soldier,
Known But To God
We cherish too, the Poppy red
That grows on fields where valor led,
It seems to signal to the skies
That blood of heroes never dies.
Do you remember?

Canadian Major McCrae's famous poem in 11915 because her country was neutral until Easter 1917. And his poem was first published in Dec. 1915 in "Punch" in England. How odd this error in US war history is repeated...
