My baby boy is leaving today

Well, sort of. Gunnar begins heading away to college today. He will be attending Ferris State University, as a dual-major (Criminal Justice and Psychology) student. Tanya and he will be taking the first load of stuff up there in an hour or so. Once they arrive they will get him checked in to his dorm, get his parking permit, and take care of all the other administrative stuff that will be needed.

Tomorrow the whole family will head back up there together, but when we come home we will be three instead of four. I know this is supposed to be a great and wonderful thing, but nobody told me I would feel so sad.

I miss him already.

1 - I know the feeling. My oldest is going in for his Sophomore year. It's scary sending them off on their own. Just trying to focus and prepare myself for an empty nest that will be here soon. < 3 years

2 - Wow. I haven't made the drive from GR to Ferris in 17 years. Nice up that way. I remember my dad telling me how sad he was on that day. It's tough to remember - this what all the fathering was for. You got him this far, now it's time for him to try out those wings. The cool thing - for me and my Dad at least - I remember that once I was out on my own, Dad started to seem more like a peer (my biggest fan he told me) and it became easier to eventually see him as one of my best friends in life. Your relationship will grow with your boy through this, tough as it may be letting him go. Congratulations - by the way - for getting him off on the right foot!

3 - friend of mine told that every parent should make there kids life hard at home last 2 year before they head of for collage, that is what they will remember when they are done with school and don't want to move back home :) Emoticon
